The school rules are sent home for each family on the first day of school.  It is important to read and review these rules with your child.  Time will be spent the first week going over these school expectations.  The classroom, lunchroom and playground rules are posted in the classroom and are expected to be followed at all times to ensure a safe, productive learning environment for all students.

Your child may/may not have homework each day.  We do a majority of our work in the classroom, but there will be times when there are assignments that are not finished during the school day.  These should be brought home by your child and completed then returned to school the next day.  If work is not turned in the next day, your child will be asked to go to study hall.  If it was left at home, they will still go to study hall.  Learning responsibility is very important, and by 4th grade, the students should be able to remember to bring their work to school on time.  Please help them keep up with their work.  Once they fall behind, it can be difficult for them to catch up.

At the beginning of each quarter, your child is given an assignment notebook.  When they come to school each day, they will fill it out with the days assignments.  This is a useful tool to also make sure your child brings home their homework.  The students are instructed to write the entire assignment in their assignment notebook.  Make sure you sign your child’s assignment notebook each day.  I will sign each child’s every day.

Parents are welcome to volunteer at school.  Please let me know if you would like to volunteer and I will start using volunteers starting near the end of the first quarter or the beginning of the second.

We have everything at school that your child will need for their education as well as for recess.  All unnecessary items should be kept at home.  It is just too tempting for things to be stolen out of lockers.  This DEFINITELY includes cell phones!  Cell phones are not allowed at school.

There are two conferences during the school year.  One in the Fall and one in the Spring.  You can sign up for a time to talk about your child’s progress.  The time you sign up for will be the same for both conferences.  There will be more information coming as the dates come a little closer.

If your child is absent due to illness, please call the school and let us know so that work can be collected.  The school phone number is 402-496-8401.  If you would like work collected for your child and sent home with another sibling, please email me or call the school and let them know as soon as possible since these things take time to gather.

If your child forgets their instrument or any other work at home, they will not be allowed to go to the office and call home.  I appreciate your assistance in this matter since the children should be old enough to be responsible for their own actions and accept the consequences if they forget.

Please contact me if you ever have any questions or concerns.  My email address is cherie.scholten@ops.org.  The school phone number is 402-496-8401.
