Math Class

Third graders will work on problem solving through these skill areas:

  • Place value and numbers through 100,000
  • Regrouping with Subtraction and Addition
  • Balancing Addition and Subtraction Equations
  • Multiplication
  • Division
  • Fractions
  • 2-d Shapes and 3-d Figures
  • Length, Weight, and Capacity
  • Telling time to the nearest minute and elapsed time
  • Making Change with Money

Third graders are asked to think flexibly with numbers and sometimes do math in their head.

This youtube example illustrates how two separate people may use our base ten system to subtract 31-17 in their heads. The number line serves a written representation to both prove and double check a person's mental math.
